This book is a collection of papers which were presented by eminent resource persons from different institutions of India in an International conference organized by Department of Chemistry and Research Cell, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya, Bhupatinagar, Purba Midnapur, West Bengal, India under DBT Star College strengthening scheme (Govt. of India) on “Recent Advances in Therapeutic Use of Chemical Compounds and Drug Delivery” held on 2nd August, 2020 virtually to commemorate 159th Birth Anniversary of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, the father of Indian Chemistry. Chemists and the Chemical Sciences have been integral to the development of modern medicine, from diagnostics to drugs and the creation of the pharmaceutical industry. The result has been a steady improvement in our health and life expectancy over the past century. However, an ageing population and the lack of access to modern healthcare worldwide still pose significant challenges. We all face problems with the spreading of infectious disease on an unprecedented scale. The exponentially increasing prevalence of non-infectious disease in an ageing population brings unforeseen and expensive challenges to healthcare. But Chemistry and Chemists have been offering solutions from last decades. Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, the father of Indian chemistry, a well-known Indian scientist, teacher and one of the first “modern” Indian chemical researchers, was one of the role models in this regard. Hydroxychloroquine or HCQ, the anti-malarial drug publicized by some, as a potential weapon against Covid-19, has put the spotlight on a company founded by Prafulla Chandra Ray. So, to pay profound respect and homage to Sir Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on the eve of his 159th Birthday, this is a small attempt of us to focus light on some recent development in therapeutic use of chemical compounds and drug delivery. This book includes the elaborate discussions on several themes associated with the conference topic. We do hope that, this book will greatly enrich the knowledge of researchers, students and readers to equip them with proper implementation.
