Indian Writing in English literature encompasses the vast body of work produced by Indian writers in India using the English language. These writers often write in English alongside their mother tongue, reflecting the diverse linguistic landscape of India. While Michael Madhusudan Dutt is credited as an early contributor, the major trio of R.K. Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand, and Raja Rao played a significant role in shaping and revitalizing Indian writing in English, incorporating Indian themes and characters into the genre. Their works broke free from established English structures and plots, breathing life into Indian fiction in English. This study focuses on Mulk Raj Anand's writing examining the struggles of his protagonists and their resolution of conflicts across several novels. It is divided into seven chapters, delving into themes like Dalit consciousness, class consciousness, moral consciousness, and social consciousness. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of Anand's novels in exploring contemporary perspectives, giving voice to marginalized communities, and establishing connections with oppressed groups.
