The author is an ex-intelligence officer who has put in 38 years of service in India's prime intelligence agency, Research & Analysis Wing(R& A). R& A deals with the collection and dissemination of intelligence as well as threat perception to India from outside India's borders. India has security threats from China and Pakistan, which share long borders with India. India's security needs are also multiplied because of its long 7516 km of coastline and its 1208 islands, which need to be defended. During his service career in R& A, the author was also posted in some foreign countries. This gave him vast knowledge and exposure about looking at India's security interests as well as India's political and economic interests in various countries. During his service career, he also worked in various branches, which gave him a different perspective to look at India's security and other interests, concerns, and requirements.
