Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand is a mining and metal professional working for more than 30 years in key positions including position of Director in Steel, Coal & Aluminium Sector and currently serving as Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Aluminium Company, one of the largest integrated Alumina & Aluminium Complex in Asia and a Navratna CPSU. On assuming the charge of CMD of NALCO, Dr. Chand introduced a new Business Model that enabled NALCO to be the lowest cost producer of Alumina in the world and 2nd lowest cost producer of Bauxite in the world. Besides this, NALCO registered consistent growth in all parameters of performance & during FY 2017-18, the net profit of NALCO got doubled. His emphasis on raw material security helped NALCO in ensuring Bauxite supply and energy provision for couple of decades.

Dr. Chand is also the President of Aluminium Association of India, the apex body representing the entire spectrum of Indian Aluminium Industry - Primary, Downstream Manufacturers, End users, R&D Organisations. As the head of Aluminium Association of India, he has been successful in placing the

agenda of Indian Aluminium Industries in the priority of policy makers. His first book ‘Aluminium : The Strategic Metal’, covering information on Bauxite Value Chain has been well appreciated by the engineers, technologists, project proponents, scholars, students and all stake holders.

Dr. Chand has been conferred with Honoris Causa D-Lit by Utkal University for his outstanding contribution in the field of management. He has been conferred with various other awards like Achievers of Odisha Award by Times of India, J Mathai National Fellowship Award by Hon'ble Governor of Jharkhand, Excellence Performance Award by Hon'ble President of India and many more. As a person, Dr. Chand is kind, compassionate, simple and suave. His accessibility, simplicity and helpful attitude have endeared him to one and all.
