Dr. Shubhranshu Shekhar Mohapatra (Born 9th March 1949, in Begunia, Khordha District, Odisha) is a consultant paediatrician with 44 years of vast experience in the field of paediatrics (both in clinical practice and research). He completed his MBBS at MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, in 1972. Then he passed DCH (1975) and MD (Paediatrics, 1978) from the Institute of Child Health in Kolkata and VSS Medical College in Burla, respectively. After his post-graduation he did one-year Post-doctoral Neonatal Training Fellowship from AIIMS New Delhi in 1982. He also went to the School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liverpool UK to pursue a short course in Maternal and Child Health in 1986.
After his education and training, he served as a paediatric specialist in rural Odisha under state government health services for about 20 years. He then worked as Senior Director (Field Operations) under the NIH (USA) Global Network Research Project, "Prevention of Infection in Indian Neonates" for 8 years. He is one of the most loved and respected paediatricians of Odisha.
Writing was his passion. His research works have been published in various Indian and international medical journals. He has authored seven books and has contributed chapters to four text books on child health and many articles to "print media." His book "Shishu Shwathya Bigyan" (Science of Child Care) in Odia is a prescribed text book by the Government of Orissa for female health workers. He has previously worked as an associate editor for the Odisha Journal of Pediatrics.
He was president of IAP (Indian Academy of Paediatrics), Odisha state branch in 2008.
He received the "Mahatma Gandhi Samman" in 1994 from Odisha Government. He was awarded for his philanthropic activities by "Begunia Jagannath Chetana Parishad" in 2010 and "Purbanchala Shishu Visheshangya Shiromani" in 2011 by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, East Zone.
